In January 1999, based on the R33 Skyline GT‑R—which had long held the title of “the strongest”—the R34 Skyline GT‑R (BNR34) was born. Its power unit, the legendary RB26DETT carried over from the R32, was further refined. Although its maximum output was limited to 280 ps due to Japanese law at the time, it boasted 40.0 kg‑m of torque and an impressive 15.6 kg‑m per liter—top‑class figures among Japanese engines of the era. The transmission adopted a 6‑speed manual co‑developed with Getrag. Compared to the R33, the body size was downsized, greatly enhancing its driving performance. However, in August 2002, production sadly came to an end due to new emission regulations, closing the chapter on its remarkable history.
