The Legendary 197 Units: Kenmeri GT-R

In September 1972, the fourth-generation Skyline, the C110 series, was launched after a full model change and became an instant hit. Thanks to the popular TV commercial catchphrase “Ken and Mary’s Skyline”, it earned the affectionate nickname “Kenmeri.” At the 19th Tokyo Motor Show held that same year, Nissan exhibited the Skyline Hardtop 2000GT-R Racing Version, and anticipation for the release of the Kenmeri GT-R reached its peak. In January 1973, deliveries of the Kenmeri GT-R began. However, since the GT-R required leaded premium gasoline, it could not comply with the 1973 emission regulations. As a result, only 197 units were produced (though figures vary depending on sources), with just 195 sold before the model was discontinued.
